Hometown: Carmel, California
I am a plein air painter and studio painter. Having grown up along the Northern California coast, I feel close to the drama of the ocean-swept coast with its mercurial weather and its unpredictability, and I strive to interpret and express my emotional reaction to this place I call home. Working outside appeals to me as I like being in the midst of the scene—close to the drama of the weather and the quickly changing light. It requires speed and flexibility. In contrast, working in the studio affords more time for reflection, the opportunity to try new things and take my work in new directions.
