Karen
Adelman
My name is Karen Adelman and I have been living and working in North Berkeley for more than thirty years. I started drawing a defense against social awkwardness. I briefly lost my ability to speak. It is, however, perfectly socially acceptable to be mute if you are drawing. I found this convenient. While under cover in this manner I came to enjoy both art making and art. The complexities of the world can be reduced. I love to draw ladies with brooches, bags, and above all, hairdos. I have studied at the San Francisco Art Institute, The Academy of Art, and New York University, and University of California Berkeley.
